Professor Owino Rew started his education at Usenge Primary School, where he sat and passed Certificate of Primary Education
in 1971. He was among the pioneer students of Usenge High school and excelled to proceed to Kirimara College in Nyeri for
the Advanced Secondary School Certificate completing with Principal Grades in 1977. In 1978, he was admitted to Kenyatta University
College, then a constituent college of the University of Nairobi, to pursue a Bachelor of Education (Arts) degree which he
competed in 1981 with Upper Second Class Honours. Having distinguished himself as a successful teacher trainer at Kamwenja
Teachers College in Nyeri District, he was admitted back in Kenyattaa University for a postgraduate degree in Primary Teacher
Education. On successfully completing the M.Ed degree programme, he was posted back to educate teacher trainees at Asumbi
Teachers College before he successfully applied for a teaching job at Moi University where he was appointed a Tutorial Fellow
in 1990. Later in the same year, he moved to Maseno University College among the pioneering team that were charged with the
responsibility of establishing the first University in Nyanza Province. The challenging and remarkable life at Maseno paved
the way for the international trips of language conferences culminating in fruitful contacts in South Africa leading to Ph.D
in Applied Linguistics at the University of the Western Cape in 2002. In 2006, Professor Owino was recognized as an International
Educator of the Year by Cambridge Biographical Society, England, Great Britain.
